UCLA wins Mock Trial National Championship

Des Moines Register – April 18, 2011

A team from UCLA won the College Mock Trial National Championship on Sunday in Des Moines.

In the championship trial, UCLA defeated students from New York University, the defending champ, four ballots to one, organizers said.  The competition ran Friday to Sunday and inluded the top 48 teams out of more than 600 from across the country.

The American Mock Trial Association was founded by Dick Calkins, a former dean of Drake University Law School. The law school and the Belin McCormick law firm sponsored the 2011 event.

Mock Trial team wins national championship

After becoming the first team west of the Mississippi River to win the American Mock Trial Association national championship last year, the UCLA Mock Trial team went back to Iowa and won again this year, defeating Georgia Tech in the final round.

UCLA Mock Trial teams dominate regional tourney
